Challenge
Besides fishing and small trading in the Mwanza region, women and men in Western Tanzania’s rural areas are not able to generate a sustainable income from the land. Beekeeping offers an opportunity to nurture the environment with bees while also being trained in beekeeping as a skill and trade for livelihood.
The income of 5 beehives is around 100 USD/per year, JAMII YA NYUKI is able to triple the impact.
Solution
The beehives will first and foremost allow for a prosperous biodiversity to develop within the area while also bringing income from the sales of honey and wax during each harvest cycle. This extra income allows beekeeping business owners to take care of the education and healthcare of their families while also developing their futures.
When a jar of JAMII YA NYUKI fair trade and organic honey is purchased, Tanzanian men, women, families, and futures are being empowered.
Long-Term Impact
The long term effects of this program equips individuals with the tools necessary to develop an equitable and successful business with a sustainable environmental impact.
